Larry Lilly's Letter Wwednesday September 29, 2010

The importance of one person's positive influence on the life of another cannot be over emphasized as the first two articles this week have shown. Today's article continues the saga of one person influencing one other and hundreds, even millions of others being touched as a result.

As a famous Christian, now passed, whom I knew reasonably well having had him and his wife preach in churches I pastored on several occasions, was preaching after his release from a communist prison; he noticed a man weeping profusely. When he finished the sermon he approached the weeping man and discovered his name was Pitter. The name was not Earth shaking, but his story is that he played an enormous part in the life of Richard Wurmbrand, the voice of the martyrs. The two had never met or were even remotely aware of their connection.

Years before Pitter had been a wheelwright and during that time had witnessed to and led a man named Christian Wolfkes to the Lord Jesus. Wolfkes was a carpenter. For years Pitter had pouted that the only thing he had done in his Christian realm was to win an ordinary carpenter to Christ. Other than that, zero.

Richard Wurmbrand during his sermon had mentioned he and his wife Sabrina, ,with whom Joyce became a fast friend, had been won to Christ in 1938 due to the witness of Christian Wolfkes.

We must return to an understanding of the importance of one person telling one other person about Christ. You never know just what the eternal result may be.

As we who know Christ simply live for him, we are examples and therefore teachers, teachers of the true abundant life. I used a statement by Henry Brooks Adams concerning the power of a teacher that should never be under estimated:

"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops."

The article from which I gleaned some info for this article is in the current issue of Israel My Glory and written by Peter Colon. The carpenter, Christian Wolfkes was killed in WWII, relatively unknown and I do not know the first name of Pitter. Yet millions of people have come to Christ through the preaching and living of Richard and Sabrina and many more disheartened encouraged to prevail over horrible circumstances.
