God created all of us to live happily on this earth. He has provided everything in nature for our happy life. But we have spoiled everything by our selfishness and have misused them. Global warming, pollution, natural calamities, etc. are the results of our selfishness. Selfishness has affected our health very much. It is fitting to think of our heart health today in the light of the Word of God. The scripture gives us solutions for our cardiovascular problems.

Five Biblical tips to maintain our heart healthy

1) Fear not

Fear and anxiety affect our hearts. Fear makes you cordially crippled and causes as many diseases as possible. Fight with the three elements of fear- Dread, Depression and Despair. Today, man is more afraid of his very existence. There is no security about human life anywhere because of the fear that at any moment life on earth can be annihilated. Fear affects the beating of heart and the nervous system of the body. It corrodes the whole system of the heart. Jesus says, in many places in the Gospel, not to fear about anything. We find him strengthening us with encouraging words. “Do not be afraid” (Luke 12:32), “Why are you so afraid, you of little faith?” (Matthew 8:26) “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but have no power to kill the soul.” (Matthew 10:31).

2) Trust in God and cast away anxiety

Worry burdens every heart. Modern man is more worried than people of any time in the past. Worry makes him depressed in life. He has no confidence in life. Researches say that worry has become a contagious disease that can affect the individual health as well as the health of the society. That is why Jesus tells us, “Do not set your heart on what you are to eat and drink; stop worrying.” (Luke 12: 29) He asks us, “Which of you for all your worrying can add a moment to your span of life?” (Luke 12: 25)

3) Eat to live and do not live to eat

Modern lifestyle with fast food and changed food habits are harming heart health very much. Many people live for eating. Eating more food to appease the tongue and gluttony has become fashion of life today. Obesity is another serious problem of the day. This World Heart Day should warn us reminding the words of Jesus us. “Alas you are full, for you will be hungry.” (Luke 6: 25) Modern lifestyle seems to say, “Rest, eat, drink and enjoy yourself” (Luke 12: 19). This attitude of uncontrolled diet leads to all kinds of diseases.

4) De-stress your heart with the Word of God

Life and society in this 21st century have become profoundly stress generating. Stress is the number one cause of hypertension and consequently cardiac disorders. Psychological conflicts of modern life, the yawning gap between expectation and reality, etc. cause emotional stress and heart diseases. Physicians suggest meditation and yoga to keep stress under control. Reading the Word of God and meditating on them can strengthen your heart and protect you from diseases.

5) Love God with all your heart

Today, man has forgotten ‘the commandment of love,’ “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind. And you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Luke 10:27) This lack of love creates breaches in life breaking hearts.

This really touches the HEART and mind of mankind. It seems like the attitude today is 'laugh, eat, drink, and do whatever makes you feel good for today is all we have'. I see and hear this over and over again. It seems the words of warning about this lifestyle go unheeded.
