Christian Living
When the world looks at a Christian who is having a difficult time in life, one who may be suffering immeasurable loss or pain, they tend to wonder why a “so-called” merciful God would let one of his children suffer and then ask why they need to trust in a God who would let someone go through such misery. The world looks at suffering as punishment from a vengeful God, that He has abandoned the sufferer to live in misery, but the Christian knows that in the midst of pain can come some of the most profound, peaceful and loving moments with God. Many people have looked at my life, I am a quadriplegic, and asked me how I could be so happy and content. The only answer to that question is that now I am experiencing life with God. Before my accident my life consisted solely on what others thought of me. I tried everything I knew to become accepted by the “in” crowd but could never succeed. Even though, I knew about God I did not once think about His role in my life. But after my accident, impressing people was no more the be all and end all. My only focus was learning to survive but there was no way I could do that on my own, it was to big a task. I had to have help and the only One with strength enough was God. To survive I had to experience God’s strength, peace and love.
One definition of experience is: something personally encountered, undergone, or lived through. Experiencing God is more than just reading the Bible and amassing knowledge of His word and works. The true way to experience God is to personally encounter Him in our daily walk of life. The main way we can encounter God daily is in prayer. As we go through our day we need to call on God for help and guidance. As we undergo the pressures of life call on Him for strength. When the burdens of this world are baring heavily upon our shoulders turn to the Lord and He will help carry the load. We can fill our heads with God's Holy word, know every single verse, but if it is not applied to our lives, lived as true, then our knowledge is useless.
I study God's word daily and try my best to apply what I have learned to the circumstances of my life. I draw close to Him daily because without Him I know I would fall under my heavy load and not make it through to life's glorious end. I'm not perfect, I struggle between right and wrong, but in my struggle I am in God's midst experiencing His glory and love.
