“The Solemn Promise”



Of course amongst many beautiful scenes within the Bible, one of the most interesting readings to me is the conversation of the thieves on the cross at Calvary. Though I have to say, I never thought of the significant of this scene till this little story was born…Picture this…



“The Solemn Promise”



Our Prince of Peace has arrived at His final hour and words. Two thieves were sentenced to death with Him but these two persons have a completely different mind set in this last hour. Jesus is tired and weary. Tortured and hurt. Soldiers below Him at the Cross, throwing dice for His robe. He has taken and drank from the cup of wrath and the sins of the world. All Angels and Heavens Armies are ready but no command being made by the Father as what to do next. The one thief will make remarks on Jesus and say….”If you are the King of the Jews, here is your chance to save your self…Can you do it?”



While the other thief remained in deep thoughts for a little while…” They mock Him as a King. If He were crazy, they would ignore Him. If He had no followers, they’d turn Him away. If He were nothing to fear, they wouldn’t kill Him. You only kill a King if He has a kingdom. Could it be…



This thief heart is beyond warm. Filled with passion. He even asked back to the other thief…”Don’t you fear God?” but of course the other thief does not fear God because he doesn’t know God. What to fear of you don’t know why and who to fear, right? But the passion filled thief even say, “Don’t you even fear God when you are dying? We deserve to die for our evil deeds, but this man hasn’t done one thing wrong!”



Everybody looks up to the Cross. Nobody has noticed this fellow before but now everybody staring at him. Soldiers are done throwing the dice. People stop weeping. Mary wipes her tears and raises her eyes.



Heaven’s gate is slowly closing. The thief is at his last chance to say what his heart dictates. He made the same request as what many other Christian will make in their lives…”Remember me when You Come into Your Kingdom, Lord.”



And Jesus Respond…”Today you will be with Me in Paradise. This is a Solemn Promise.”

(Above little story was born through by the inspiration of a book called “Six Hours One Friday” and I have used some of the wording as well mixed with my own words and emotions while I was writing. But foremost I Thank our Wonderful Almighty for His Prompt Call to use me to be just a finger to do the typing.)
