There is a verse that keeps coming to my mind over the past few days that I think we all need to pay attention to. The Verse in Mark 8:15 which says "Be careful, Jesus warned, Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod" There is a lot of teaching out there that we need to be aware of. God gave us a mind to use. We know, or should know, what the Scriptures say. Thus, if there are teachings are are contrary to what the Scriptures say, we need to disregard them.
This can be a very difficult task, because there are not only a lot of people teaching out there, but Scripture is full of information that can be manipulated to mean just about anything. For instance, there is a lot about Scripture that talks about the end times and judgment. This makes it is easy to link things that happen in this world to end times or judgment. Yet, when Jesus asked what the greatest commandment was he said " Hear O Israel, The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all of you strength and with all of your soul and with all of your mind and with all of you strength. The second is this: Lover you neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these." When Jesus said that these were the two greatest commandants he gave us a good guide to check out teachings with. Are the teachings you are hearing filled with love or hate? Are they filled with love of Judgment? If they are not filled with love, the we must question the teaching.
I am not saying that God does not Judge. He does, but he judges in loving way. However, as Christians we are called to love. Even if we think people are being judged by God, which I would contend that we have no way of knowing, we still are called to love them. The best way to show somebody to love of Christ is to show them love. Therefore, let us make sure that we love others no matter what they may be doing. We are not called to love the sin, but to love the sinner. We are called to love, so that others may turn from their sin and embrace the love of Christ.
There is a lot going on in the world today, and many people are trying make God appear as if He is some type of angry Judge that is causing people to suffer. God may be a Judge, but he is a loving Judge. Therefore, beware of any teaching that teaches us to do anything but to love and serve those who are suffering, because it is only when we love and serve those who are suffering that they can truly see the light of Christ.
