In life, how often do we receive the best in the end? Surprises are carefully kept wrapped under suspense to be revealed at the end just for that awesome look of delight! In any competition, the winner’s name is declared in the end after the names of the runners up. The most important announcement is always proclaimed last.
There are times when the best is also achieved at the cost of great pain. But, victory always prevails and the reward is nothing but the best.

There is a popular story of a student who was sent to a far away boarding school for further studies. He promised his parents that if the conditions found there were favorable, he would write to them in blue ink whereas if he was not given the proper treatment, he would write in red ink. A few weeks later his parents received a letter from him in blue ink about how the place was so nice, the people so good and how well he was being treated. And then, his last sentence stated that the only problem was that there was no red ink available.

We sometimes like to cherish the best for the end. At the wedding feast in Cana, the best wine was served in the end because this wine having received the special touch of our Lord became the sweetest wine of the evening.

There are some others however who rush to take the best in the first instance. Jesus specially singled out such people by saying that when they were invited to a wedding feast to take the last place instead of the first; lest the host comes up and makes the one seated in the front row to get up and give his place to a more important guest. It was more prudent to be called from the last seat to take the seat of honor in front.

Since the beginning of creation, God sent so many prophets and holy men to His beloved people on earth. But, He saved the best for last when He sent His only son Jesus to redeem and save us.
Jesus similarly, saved the vision of His transfigured glory until the end just before His crucifixion. He knew that it was the experience of His splendor on Mount Tabor which would give the apostles strength to believe in His resurrection in the dark days after His death.

The Best is still yet to come, this as revealed in the book of Revelation, the last book in the bible; where God promises the New Heavenly Jerusalem at the end of the world. The radiance of the lamb that was slain will emanate from His seat on the throne of majesty and justice where thousands will wait upon Him to worship Him in all honor and glory. A city where no sun or moon would be required as the Son would be the lamp, His glory shining bright to illuminate the new heaven. A place where lambs and wolves would lie together without any fear. A place where we shall see God face to face and His name will be written on our foreheads. He will pour out His spirit upon us and we will be His forever and ever.

This is the promise. All we have to do is save ourselves for the best, for that last and eternal heavenly glory where all are winners. There are no runners up. Jesus has won the race for each and every one of us. All we have to do is step forward and collect our heavenly prize.
