Distress grips my fainting heart
Frustrations encompass me
Healing from cruel bruises
Inflicted by enemies

Seductions of revenge
Enticing my will
Invitations of wrath
Demanding reprisal

Hate I covet
Malice I conceive
Contriving plots
In vengeful grief

Mercy will not do
Forgiveness will not be
Too great the piercings
Have thus wounded me

A voice beckons clear
Gentle but stern
Paralyzing my thoughts
With illuminating words

"My child, do remember
That thou petitions me
Requesting all mercy
And grace for thee

Pardoning your iniquity
Forgetting your errs
I hath covered your sins
And answered your prayers

My life I hath given
My arms I hath spread
For the rescue of your soul
With the blood I hath shed

Do unto others my child
As you would hath them do unto you
Forgive your transgressors
As I hath forgiven you"
