Where is your sting, sadness?

Where is your power, fear?

Where is your strength, despair?

It has been calmed with

the love of Jesus

It has no power now that

Jesus is here

Loving me, telling me

He is in control

He is my light and salvation

Just as scripture says

He is my life and breath

Sadness, fear, despair have

no power now

Situation: Jesus, I feel so afraid. I know as a Christian I am supposed to have trust in you and not be afraid. You call us to turn to you and have faith. Though I know this, I am still fearful. I am afraid I will fail in things I do, and what’s worse, I fear I will fail your belief in me! Can you help me?





Jesus says: Yes, I do say to turn to me, and I will say it again. But this time rest in me. If your desire is to follow me and bring my love to others, there isn’t any way you can fail. I know—you are thinking of the times you may have gotten annoyed or angry at someone. Remember, I made you. I know you are human. I know you will make mistakes. In fact, if you don’t make mistakes, you aren’t trying to follow me. It takes risk, and sometimes you will fail, but there’s no disgrace in that. Look at the Bible. How many times did the apostles make mistakes? Yet, I called them to spread the faith. Just as I am sending you. Fear is nothing to be ashamed of. Courage comes from doing my will even when you are afraid. So, know that I look at the heart, not mistakes.


Activity: Reflect on things you are afraid of. Are your fears realistic—do you have a solid reason for the fear? There is nothing wrong with this, and some fear, in fact, is helpful, such as being afraid of walking in a dark alley late at night. But if your fears are unreasonable and affect the quality of your life, don’t hesitate to get professional help. Most of all, take your fears to Jesus and share them with him, and don’t let your fears keep you from following what you feel Jesus is calling you to do. Know that you are not alone. Jesus is with you.


Closing Prayer:


Jesus, I realize how

I forget you are with me,

and start to fear

I want to hide from the

world and your people.

I need to remember

you have given me

all the spiritual tools I need

I am your beloved child

My only purpose is sharing your love

and being united with you
