Larry Lilly's Letter Tuesday July 20, 2010

Twenty years ago I was going through what we call a "life crisis" meaning that everything dear was on the line, most material things were already gone and to say my faith was shaken is a mere gloss over the truth. In the darkest days of that epoch of despair a man came to visit me. This man was to say the least acquainted with grief and had overcome all the temptations that come with severe trials. He said something to me in passing that flashed like lightning into my heart:

"Larry, it is important for you to understand that what you are doing is more important than what has happened."

This statement by Cliff Robinson has kept me going over many horrible events since then. I learned experientially the truth of Romans 8:28 and was taught how to apply the truth of this much used verse to daily life situations. The verse states: Romans 8:28:

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

This verse was written by a man who had "held the coats" of the mob that had murdered Stephen under the guise of pseudo legitimate authority. Paul learned from the Lord that the work God was using him to accomplish was more important than the idiocy of his past actions.

Through carefully studying Paul's life/ministry I discovered a way to keep on going when it seemed foolish to even believe let alone "keep on keeping on." If I can believe Romans 8:28, then I must also learn to apply its truth by simply saying and asking for faith to trust, "that which is happening to me now, passed through God's permission (Job is the case law) and I accept the little than I can do to be deemed by God to be of importance; therefore I abide faithful." Mrs. F.W. Suffield wrote, "Little is much when God is in it." And in a coming day we will hear Him say, "Welcome home my child; well done." If (When) the dream of your life is ripped from your heart like a nightmare, remember the words of Dr. Robinson to me,

"it is important for you to understand that what you are doing is more important than what has happened."
