Larry Lilly's Letter Thursday July 15, 2010

Inspirational ideas are where you find them, or so goes current wisdom. So, I find over the years that I keep my pencil sharp and paper (Usually scraps) handy to spear any good idea that swims by. Such was the case the other day when I accomplished my daily Facebook ritual. Judy Williams Jones wrote:

"Never tell me the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon."

Judy's statement is proof that wisdom grows as knowledge increases as the Bible said it would. For most of my life the few people who tried to encourage, to inspire me, have used the wisdom of yesterday, "You will get over this Larry, and always remember, the sky is the limit." And for most of my life I accepted this as true, because for most of my life Christ has lived in my heart and I knew He could/would lift me from the sinking sand mess I has/was making of my life. The Sky is the limit saying worked well for probably six, seven thousand years and now we know better. The sky is NOT the limit, there really are no limits. The only limits we have are the ones we ignorantly place between our ears. We limit ourselves through erroneous thinking, dreaming, lackluster passion, fear and the refusal to accept God's truth that "with Christ we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us."

Paul says in Romans 8:37:

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

A few years ago a friend translated the above in part into Latin with a play upon the "supernikion," or "more than conquerors" and it came out that because Christ loves us we can and should overcome the many different problems of life. The term I loved and used for years for "supernikion" was "Arrogantly Invincible." This arrogance is NOT rooted in self or any natural ability, but in the power of the Spirit which brought again our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead. Due to Christ's resurrection, even the grave is NOT a limit, thus the arrogance of faith.

When the "Arrogance of Invincibility" permeates your soul it is like Churchill said when the news came that the United States was joining forces with the British Empire against the Axis Power; "The United States has drawn the sword for Freedom and thrown away the scabbard." This attitude and active commitment to victory prevailed as it will prevail today in your life. Get rid of "The sky is the limit and think about footprints on the moon."
