What The World Needs…COMPASSION!

When Lyn Jumawan, my niece, was a precious little two year old, she would sometimes ask, “Uncle, would you wead me a stowy, pwease?” This meant letting her turn the pages of a magazine, then pointing at the pictures of interest to her.

This afternoon as she turned through a household magazine, she came to an advertisement for Doan’s pills, a remedy for back pain. The woman pictured in the ad was shown to be in a great deal of pain. Lyn looked her for a moment, rubbed her little hand over the woman’s face and the leaned over and kissed the spot of her back that the woman held onto. Then she turned the page.

What a positive, sweet lesson for all of us—her reaction to someone she did not know who was in pain and suffering was and is special. At her young age, Lyn would not have had a word for it. Jesus would have—He would have called it COMPASSION.


Prayer: Almighty God and Father help us come to a point where showing compassion towards one who is hurting does not require us to think about it but a natural response to the hurting who you love so much! Amen.
