“Peace be with you; I give you my peace. Not as the world gives peace do I give it to you.” (John 14: 27) these are the immortal words of promise by the one who assured permanent peace. These words should provoke our minds to seek for this eternal peace.

Man’s search for peace today
Modern man ha advanced in so many things except achieving peace. The more he is advancing the more restless becomes his mind. The mind that discovered the power of nuclear energy is frightened today when it will explode to eradicate the whole humanity. He has lost his peace of mind completely and is trying all the means in search of peace.

Man is striving hard to meet his basic needs. When they are achieved he further runs for comforts that can keep him peaceful. The more he amasses wealth, the less satisfied he becomes.

What can make man peaceful?
Man thought once he achieves means for his basic needs, food and shelter, he would be happy. Then he goes for further earning to assure his comfort and luxury which he hoped would give him peace of mind. But all his attempts result in emptiness.

External attempts in search of peace
Man is running after sages and philosophers seeking to find the way for permanent peace. Most of them end in a mirage. He spends his wealth in activities that he hopes would bring him peace. He is ready to lose anything to attain peace.

Seven things that the world promises would give peace
1) Fame
2) Plenty of Wealth
3) Luxurious life
4) Limited pleasures got through mental activities
5) Temporary pleasures that body gains through certain things
6) Drugs and other artificial means
7) Hobbies and activities to forget oneself

Jesus promises real peace. Eight ways he shows for real peace.

1) We achieve peace not only in loved by others but more in loving others
2) Not only when we are forgiven but more by forgiving others
3) Not only when we are understood by others but more when we understand others
4) Not only when we get mercy from others but more when we are merciful to others
5) When we move with others in real love forgetting all hatred
6) Not merely finding fault with others but also when we appreciate their plus points and achievements
7) Not finding pleasure in others’ failures but in encouraging others to achieve success
8) Casting away all kinds of feelings of envy or jealousy, help others also to be contented and satisfied

Jesus promises real peace. It is lot like the one that world gives. It removes all anxieties and fears. It strengthens and encourages. The peace of the world leads us to disappointment and disaster. But the peace of Jesus leads us to eternal bliss.
