Devotionals
Did you learn how to skip and trot in your early childhood? I have memories of my fun skipping after learning the needed rhythm and co-ordination. Skipping is joy in motion and serves no other purpose. Unlike running, which gets you to your goal faster, skipping is slow and graceful.
In old home movies taken by my husband, I held my daughter by one hand, son with the other, and we skipped across the Coachella Valley desert sands. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but when I viewed the scene, I realized how silly I looked. I was young-at-heart, but skipping is better suited to children.
I dedicate this to a dear friend, Lou Jean. Her love, encouragement, and joy put a spring in my step and a smile in my heart. The Song of Songs speaks of passion and love. “I hear my lover’s voice. Here it comes, jumping over the mountains, skipping over the hills. My lover is like a gazelle or a young deer (Song of Songs 2:8-9a ERV).” Does your heart skip a beat when Jesus draws near? We are never too old to experience the lighthearted emotions of skipping to the rhythm of love for the Savior.
