David was young, a wisp of a lad,
Minding the Sheep of his Father, Jesse.
And Israel was challenged by Philistines bad,
To a war both cruel and messy.

Israel’s men were kept in fear,
By Goliath, a Philistine giant.
A terrible threat in full battle gear,
A frightening sight, none could deny it.

The Philistines laughed at the fear of Israel,
For no one would challenge their champ.
Their confidence brimming, they never could fail,
Across enemies bones they would stamp.

But David had faith and trusted the Lord,
So he went to the front and said “I’ll take you on”,
He wasn’t afraid of the Philistine’s sword.
And everyone thought that his senses had gone.

Goliath just laughed and thought it a joke,
“Can Israel not find me a man”?
“If your army does not have a worthier bloke,
You won’t stand in the way of our plan”.

But David just stood, ready for war,
Holding tight to the sling in his hand.
This angered Goliath, who charged with a roar,
And his footfalls were felt through the land.

David bent over and picked up a stone,
And fitted it into his sling.
The stone then flew forward and collided with bone,
Around Goliath’s head birdies did sing.

The giant fell over, dead on the ground,
And Israel jumped up with a shout.
They gathered their weapons from there and around,
Attacked and kicked the Philistines out.

And David, boy hero, was proclaimed through the land,
And one day he would grow to be King.
So remember this tale when you have to stand,
Because faith can achieve anything.
