A Warning Word

As I witnessed something just a few days ago on television, I believe the Holy Spirit stirred within me this word of warning for God’s people!
Jesus declares to us …
“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” Matthew 24:11-12
This seems to be a development that is coming about at an alarming rate … false prophets are rising and they are deceiving many – multitudes of entire households in a single moment of time!
What, do you suppose, are the messages of false prophets? What, do you suppose, are the intentions and motives of false prophets?
The messages? Simply whatever contradicts what God has already prophesied!
“For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.” 1 Thessalonians 5:3
The motives and intents? Again, simple - - to lead people away from the Truth! And people – even God’s people – are all too often all too ready to be steered away from Truth!
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
2 Timothy 4:3-4
Now, why would anyone be willing to listen to a false prophet? Because a false prophet appeals to the carnal nature and carnal mind while God’s Truth deals with what makes us – at times – uncomfortable! Especially when the Truth is that dark times are at hand and are what lie ahead!
Far too often, people – including God’s own people – label True Prophets as prophets of gloom and doom and people just don’t want to hear gloom and doom! They want to hear forecasts of bright and sunny days with a cool breeze and refreshing circumstances! And so, when Truth declares that difficult times are at hand, the false prophets arise with the opposite message!
I saw this just a few days ago on “Christian” television featuring an up and coming celebrity … but who is a false prophet! Oh, he is a talented musician and has a very charismatic personality … but a false prophet all the same!
Here is the warning …
He spoke much truth from God’s Word! He spoke correctly of Biblical accounts. He even spoke correctly that God can turn situations around in a moment …which God can do and has done so many times!
BUT! This man was telling the audience that we don’t have to fear things turning bad – not because God can carry us through the difficult times – but because God won’t allow difficult times! When they do get bad, God will miraculously turn them around and we will be taken from disaster to feasting!
Now, let’s see … Jeremiah warned that the Jews should accede to Babylon and live because the Babylonians were going to destroy Jerusalem! But the false prophets spoke contrary to the Truth and convinced the Jews that there was nothing to worry about! When the prophets warned of coming judgment from God, the false prophets spoke messages contrary to the Truth and convinced the people that God would not do such things and that only good times lay ahead!
So the next time you hear or watch a “Christian Media Celebrity” who is prophesying good times ahead in the sense that God will not allow our nation (or world for that matter) to suffer except that God will turn it all around and miraculously resolve all the ills …
The next time you hear or watch a Christian celebrity who is wildly popular that claims that God’s people have only good things to look forward to – in our earthly life experiences … need I continue?
REMEMBER to go to the Bible and read for yourself what does Jesus Himself have to say about what lies ahead – for God’s own people – and what the New Testament declares we the “House of God” must face and endure during these last times!
Remember what God’s Word warns … “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.”
