A Memorial Prayer

I looked, at all of the American flags
Stirring slightly, with the breeze
As I glanced around the cemetary
It looked so peaceful, lined with trees

A resting place, for our soldiers brave
So young, so strong. . .So proud
Now quieted, in a "Too Early", grave
I began, praying to God . . . Aloud

"Lord, I know that you can hear me
And I think I speak, for everyone
Please send sweet peace, to the parents
That have lost family. . . A daughter or son"

"Lord, the loved ones they've left behind
Please hold them close, send mercy their way
For mere words, we could never find
To keep them strong. . .Day by day"

"And please Lord, tell those soldiers
We appreciate all . . . they've done
By giving their lives, to keep us free
They were so brave, each and every one"

"Now Lord . . . As I pass each grave
I'll place a "Rose" to show we care
I know the soldiers are looking down
They'll see them, lying there"

"Lord, tell them it's a token
A way to show . . . Our love
And 'tho our hearts are so broken
We know they are with you, above"

"Yes, they walk streets of Heaven, now
A better reward . . .They could never know
Tell them "Thank You" from fellow countrymen
As our "Memories" of them forever, flow.

What a beautiful poem. It is more than just the words; I was struck by the overall tone of it. I hope everyone reads this today. Thanks for your gift of poetry.
