Faith Vs Facts
Faith as you all know is biblically defined as the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen, according to Hebrews 11:1, while fact is a piece of information presented as having objective reality, it also means something that has actual existence, you often hear people use phrases like ‘The fact remains that it has been difficult doing this”, “The fact is that you don’t have all it takes to achieve this” Facts are endless.
But my question is what connection exists between these two words: ‘Faith and fact’ are they friends or enemies… your guess is as good as mine, they are enemies. Faith tells me that something I can’t see actually exist, fact says something exist because I can feel and see it, so you see how contradictory they are.
What comes to my mind is the ‘drama’ so to speak that was acted by Jesus and Peter; the later saw Jesus walking on the sea; he was mesmerized, but the interesting thing about it was that he indicated interest to do likewise-walk on the sea, of course you know my Jesus; He beckoned on Peter to step forward, I want to believe that at the point Peter indicated interest to walk on the sea like Jesus; he only thought about how amazing this God is and how fascinating it would be to do likewise, the thought that he could get drawn in the sea did not come up. Jesus asked him to come, my Bible said that he began to walk toward Jesus, but at some point, fact beckoned and at this point he realized that he was “actually” walking on water, my Bible says that the moment that thought on fact set in; he began to sink. He beckoned on the savior to save him. (Mathew 14: 29-31)- “So He said “come” and peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when the he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me! And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?
Now tell me what are those facts that surround you, they seem so disturbing and boisterous like the wind, would you choose to be afraid like Peter or have faith that Jesus in it with you all the way?
Don’t forget! Faith and facts are enemies, if you want God to step in and remain; then you must have faith and stop looking at the facts around you, peter was afraid when he noticed the fact that the wind was boisterous and he was going to sink and he began to sink.
That you don’t have money to pay your accrued bills now, is a fact, that you just lost someone so dear to you, is a fact, that you just lost your job is a fact, that you’ve been heart broken is a fact, that it’s been difficult to manage your work and family is a fact… But faith comes into all these, when you believe and act on what the WORD of God says about your situation. Whose report will you believe?
Looking unto Jesus the author and the finisher of our faith. Stop looking at facts.
