“Not even One”



Reading a “bed time story” to my son just the other night got me really thinking as well. Of course by the time I was finished reading it to him, his eyes were closed but mine were right open and herewith I wish to share it with you as well.



“Not even One”



“Jimmy was on his way to home from school. His mom has seen him walking towards the house but she has also noticed that Jimmy was walking by him self, while all the other kids were either in groups walking or in pairs. She wondered how lonely her son was at school actually but left the thought there. As the afternoon went on, Jimmy has finished his homework for the following day. When his mom stepped into Jimmy’s room later on, she fined him being busy cutting papers and sticking all kind of things on the paper with glue. His mom asked, “What are you doing Jimmy?” Jimmy with big excitement on his little red face told his mom, “I am making cards for all my classmate since tomorrow is Valentine’s day.”



Mom just looked at him and quietly hoped that her son will also get a card. Next day Jimmy took off to school with all the cards in his bag. Mom was thinking, what could she do for Jimmy in case he will not get a card, how could she cheer up her boy if he comes home sad. Well, the best option was of course to bake Jimmy’s favorite cookies and it was all ready by the time Jimmy got home.



As she opened the front door, Jimmy was standing front of her with red face. “How was your day, Jimmy?” she asked. Jimmy barely could talk at first and he could only say, “Mom, not even one”. He was beaming with joy. “I didn’t skip one person”, he said, “not even one!”



This story makes one think, doesn’t it? What would you have done if you are in Jimmy’s shoes?

Do you also like to do things for people without getting any reward for it?

The Bible teaches us that our left hand shouldn’t know what our right hand doing. That means that we must be prepared to do kind deeds without expecting anything in return.

That’s not always easy!



“Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 6;1 NLT)
