All that Glitters is not Gold
Ge:13:9: Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
Ge:13:10: And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
Ge:13:11: Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.
Ge:13:12: Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.
Ge:13:13: But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.
Summary
Choices Come with Consequences
Abraham was the one who carried the blessing of God. He received the promises in Ch 12 and as he obeyed God he was so generous to take his nephew, lot, with him.
As we see in this passage, God was fulfilling his promises by blessing them super-abundantly. They were sprawling to the right and the left.
Incidentally this resulted in some misunderstanding and quarrel.
Abraham was wise and did not want that to escalate hence he suggested that they part ways. However Abraham was so humble that he wanted Lot to choose first where to go.
God gives grace to the humble but resists the proud.
Secondly we can see that Abraham demonstrates his confidence in God. This is faith in action.
Thirdly we see that Abraham was a man of peace for avoiding strife between the servants and between him and his nephew, Lot. A man of God must avoid strife.
We also see that prosperity has its bottlenecks and we must know how to handle them otherwise the blessing could turn into a curse.

Spend time in the word of God
Eat it, chew it, digest it
Drink it, warm up to it
Treasure it
Treat it like gold
Arm yourself with it
Walk with
Work with it
Listen to it
Tune into it
Bath yourself with it
See yourself in it
And do it
It will do you good.

1. Humility
We see in this passage that Abraham, despite carrying a great destiny and blessing that would come through Christ, was humble. When they came to a cross-road where there arose a quarrel between his men and those of his nephew, Lot he told lot to choose first where to go. He did not say,’ I am older and so I will choose where to go and then you can choose. ‘ Abraham was humble about it and God gave him the best. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Because Jesus was humble, abandoning his glory and majesty and coming down to die, God highly exalted Him and gave Him a Name above every other name, that at the Name of Jesus, every knee should bow, of things in heaven, of things on earth, and of things underneath the earth.
So keep your head in spite of provocation. Leave your future in the hands of God. He will bring beauty out of the beastly, blessing out of battles or barriers.
