Unless and until you know your identity and consequently your purpose, then you will forever remain confused about your values and your worth. You will also not know your destiny because your values determine your identity.

In any convenience store, items have a price tag. When you get saved, you come to Christ and your old self is replaced with a new one (2Cor 5:17); you get a new identity and therefore a new tag. No longer are you in the dark; rebellious, proud and sinful, you become a new person. Who then are you really?

If it were not for Christ, surely you would be lost. In salvation you come voluntarily to him when he calls you (john15:16). The question to ask yourself at this point is whether or not you are a Nazirite by birth or by choice.

A Nazirite, according to the Bible was a person who had taken vows to be totally dedicated to God. He was consecrated for God and set apart for a period of time during which he was not expected to cut his hair because this was the symbol for which he was set apart. He would be a self-disciplined person whose total devotion was to God. He adhered to a strict diet but did all this voluntarily. Once the period of his vow ended, he had to give an offering in line with his commitment.

Samson was one such person who led Israelites in the days of the Philistines (Judges 15:20) but because he really did not know himself nor his worth as spelt out by his status, he failed to live up to the expectations for which he was set apart. His name meant ‘sunshine’ for that is what he was to bring to the Israelites but he failed to fully deliver on his potential. Like him, if you do not know your identity, then you fail to know your worth. Samson yoked with the foreigner, Delilah, despite her not being godly. He was to be the people’s deliverer but lived below what was expected of his identity.

Like Samson, you may be a Christian whose Christianity is not even obvious to those around you. You may be a one thing by day and quite another by night. You may, like Samson, be bold before men but weak before women thereby living a life of lies. Samson lived beneath his value firstly by dishonoring his parents through yoking with a heathen. Are you in someway fellowshipping with the wrong company; people who do not help you honor God? Then it is time to set yourself apart from such liaisons.

Secondly he deserted his divine promise. You too may not be living according to the way that God designed for you and are therefore throwing back God’s purpose for you to His face.

Thirdly, because he did not know his purpose nor his worth, Samson distorted his calling. He sometimes used his strength to impress others and have the spotlight on him. Maybe you too are using your talent in the wrong way of attracting attention to yourself instead of using it to glorify our God, the glory of Israel.

Fourthly as a result of seeking for this attention, Samson deluded himself about his power and his worth.

You should be anointed by the hand of God so that you can gain your new identity; this comes with a purpose. Do not deny the light of Christ that is in you; instead use it to show the non-believers direction. God calls you a guiding light, one that is placed on the hill like a beacon. He needs you to be the salt of the earth to provide seasoning to a world that needs answers. What use therefore is salt if it loses its taste? You are enslaved to God as told in Romans 6:22 and your freedom is found in your oneness with God. You can only find your true worth and hence identity if you are in alignment with Jesus Christ. Furthermore, you cannot afford to be neutral in a world that needs your input. You must participate in the goings on of Christian life.

You are a joint heir or co-heir with Jesus Christ. You are of great value because a price of life was paid for you. Live conscious of your identity as God has already spoken over your life; in Psalms 139 you see how He knew you long before He assembled you; live conspicuously as a Christian so that people can see you and seek to be like you. ; live circumspectively, being vigilant of the goings-on around you and lastly live confidently; wholly and fearlessly.
