Larry Lilly's Letter Wednesday April 28, 2010

Earlier this morning I checked the Facebook page to see how I am doing and so far all is well. My communication genes being rooted in German/Monacan Indian heritage consist of sending bombs when displeased or smoke signals when I need to get a message out. I missed the Twitter phase as I assumed it was a vehicle for Twits to communicate. Email is my main bag, though I do use a cell phone which the grandchildren ridicule due to its being powered with Kerosene.

That we humans are really into communication is so well documented that we suffer from information overload. In spite of all the gadgets and widgets we use to communicate we do NOT communicate but merely send and receive words with little to no meaning. For instance I noticed a well known Christian's comment: "While fixing breakfast I expelled body gases which broke Mach 1." (Not the exact phrase). I was blessed with this news as surely the Lord used this to help me face the day.

Joseph Priestley, born in 1733, noted the deterioration of communication skills and stated a truth that we who live in the age of electronic and kerosene powered communication should give serious thought when he wrote:

"The more elaborate our means of communication, the less we communicate."

It is a fact that our most effective means of serious communication is the mind, heart, mouth, ears and eyes and body. The truth of this is embodied in the old story of a shy young man who fell in love and fearing rejection wrote to the person whom he loved a fantastic love letter each day. His scheme worked when at year's end his girl married the mailman.

In the best of worlds if I had something powerful that I wanted to communicate I would do it in person.

True communication is the bonding, the melding of the spirit of each person to a small or large degree, the degree depending on the nature of the communication.

Humans seem to be chained to our bodies and thus we must use our body to carry our spirit to locations. God, suffering no such limitations is with us through His spirit, Parakletos, or Comforter, as in John 14:26:

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

God THE Spirit is with us and we must regain an understanding of the essential need for face to face, alongside to help communication.
