Encouragement
This song was one of the favorites of the Youth group in our church when La Moyne and I were dating. (Yes, we had music 'back in the olden days' :)
'MY GOD IS REAL' ('YES, GOD IS REAL')
Words/Music by Kenneth Morris.
'There are some things I may not know,
There are some places I can’t go.
But I am sure of this one thing:
My God is real for I can feel Him deep within.
Some folks may doubt, some folks may scorn;
All can go on and leave me alone.
But as for me, I’ll take God’s part,
My God is real–for I can feel Him in my heart!
I cannot tell just how you felt
When Jesus took all your sins away.
But since that day, yes, since that hour,
God has been real for I can feel His holy power!
My God is real, real in my soul;
My God is real for He has washed and made me whole!
His love for me is like pure gold,
Yes, God is real, for I can feel Him in my soul."
Warren Wiersbe is one of my favorite Bible scholars with a heart, wrote a book entitled "It's Real".
It is a realistic look at love and right living in an age which knows little of either!
He wrote:
"You remember how exciting 'Once upon a time' stories were....
about living happily ever after?
They were open doors into an exciting world of make-believe....
a dream world that helped you forget all the problems of childhood.
Then POW! One day you turned a corner and 'once upon a time' became kid stuff.
You discovered that life is a battleground, not a playground....
and fairy stories were no longer meaningful.
You wanted (and needed) something real.
The search for something new is not 'news'.
It's been going on since the beginning of history.
People have searched for:
~reality
~satisfaction
~wealth
~thrills
~conquests
~power
~learning
~and even religion.
There is nothing really wrong with these experiences...
except that by themselves, they never really satisfy!
'Wanting' something real...and 'finding' something real are 2 different things.
Like a child eating cotton candy at a circus, expecting to bite into something real....
but ending up with a mouth full of nothing.
The problem comes when we trade in childish childhood toys for adult toys
(that are artificial, superficial and counterfeit) for the 'real' thing.
John's Gospel and Epistle prove to us that satisfying reality is not found in things
(nor thrills)....but in a Person!
Jesus Christ, the Son of God...our Saviour and Lord."
John teaches us that God is:
~able
~faithful
~able to save us (Heb. 7:25)
~succor (help) us (Heb. 2:18)
~to support us (Jude 24-25)
~to subdue all things (Phil. 3:21)
~to secure us in death (II Tim. 1:12)
~to supply all our needs (Phil. 4:19)
WITH A GOD LIKE THIS, YOU CAN'T LOSE!
When our youngest son was in Jr. High, he came home one day and asked,
"Why didn't you tell me that life is hard out there?"
He was hearing and seeing things that he had never heard (nor seen) in our home.
It was a bit funny at the time but it made us stop and think...
about how we were not going to be able to shield our children from those things...
but how we could better prepare them for 'life in the real world'.
The best way of course, is to teach them about Jesus...
then help lead them to know Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Which is the same remedy for everyone!
