The topic for this article is "failure". Failure is magnifying our problems over God. For an example let us look at the children of Israel.
The time has now come for them to possess the land of Canaan. Twelve spies were sent ahead of them to scout out the land. When these spies returned to camp, ten of them said the land eats up its inhabitants. They also saw giants in the land. So the children of Israel viewed themselves as grasshoppers and didn't think they had a chance.
They had just seen the power of God in their deliverance from Egypt. They had also seen the Red Sea part so they could cross over it. Even though they had seen the mighty power of God they still chose to believe that they were not able to take possession of the land of Canaan. Why? Because all they had kjnown was slavery. They were beatin. They were whipped. If they dared to raise a hand against an Egyptian they were probably killed. Fear and intimidation had developed in their life. Because of this they had a hard time believing that they could win a fight especially if the enemy appeared to be bigger, smarter, and stronger than they were.
Now think about how this story relates to us. In life there are many things that create fear in us or cause us to be intimidated. Things like verbal abuse, physical abuse, neglect, and being told that you don't live up to somebody's expectations all contribute to these fears. These fears, intimidations, and an inferioritycomplex will paralyze your faith in God. As a result we will no longer seek God with our whole heart. We will also start losing our joy. Since the joy of the Lord is our strength we start to get discouraged.
In Luke 21 Jesus was telling about some signs we will see before His coming. After He talked about the nations on the earth being distressed He said men's hearts will fail them for fear.
Now listen to what Joshua and Caleb had to say about Canaan. They told the children of Israel that the Lord would bring them into the land and give it to them. They also told them to not be afraid of the people in the land. They said, "The Lord is with us".
We, the Body of Christ, need to have the same attitude that Joshua and Caleb had. Our God is bigger than any problem we face. He will never leave us or forsake us.
