I wish I could take a pencil
And capture the smile that glows
On her sweet face.
I would recreate the joy in her eyes
As she relishes the simple things,
And the way her chin tilts as she
Knowingly of not, worships
The God who created her.
But even as I try to sketch this picture
Of a child enjoying creation,
I am unable to capture the emotion
That I see so clearly in my soul.
So I'll keep using my gift:
Me, I draw with words.

If I were a dancer,
I'd sway to a song that speaks
Of Your love for me.
I'd jump and I'd twirl in a glorious display -
A reflection of Your majesty.
First I'd step left, then I'd spin right,
My skirt swirling around my ankles
As I dance for You.
I'd live on a stage and I'd move
To the music You place in my soul.
But I don't have enought talent
To dance for the world to see.
So I will hold fast to my ability:
As for me, I dance with words.

If I were a musician,
I'd pick up my guitar and strum
A melody to match the rippling creek.
The wonder of the whispering wind
Played out on my violin.
My fingers would dance across the piano keys -
A declaration of Your love for me
As I recreate the harmony in my soul.
I'd take my flute or clarinet and echo the music
That carries me home to be with You.
But I find myself unable
To put music to the song that is in my heart.
So I will stick with this blessing
Knowing I, I play with words.

If I were an artist,
I'd take my paints and create
A glorious sunset.
I'd duplicate the image my Father made for me
On the canvas of the sky.
I'd set it in a background of red and pink
Dusted with traces of yellow and orange,
As the sun rises over the mountains
And penetrates the realm of darkness
With the glory of its light.
But I don't have the ability
To change colors into beauty
And so I'll cling to my passion
Because I, I paint with words.
