3 TESTS PEOPLE OF DESTINY MUST PASS (POWER)
Then God said “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the bird of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground” (Genesis 1:26). The thirst for power has always been a part of man’s nature. When God decided to make man, His intention was to make a personality that would exercise dominion over the earth. Man was supposed to exercise God’s Power on the earth to accomplish His divine will, Genesis 2:15-16.
Power is not inherently evil, it takes on the personality of the individual who possesses it. When the government of a developed nation uses power to make and enforce policies that make life better for the citizens, power becomes a good thing. However the reverse is the case when government officials of a developing nation use their power to embezzle public funds. The reason absolute power corrupts absolutely lies in the nature of the individual who possesses it.
In today’s world, power comes in various forms-money, influence, position, fame etc. All these things enable us to achieve certain things, cause certain changes which is what power is. Our intention for getting power will always influence the way we use it. Jesus was able to resist the devil’s temptation to worship him for power, Matthew 4:8-10, because He saw power as a means of serving humanity not Himself.
Just as our destiny is to bless others, our use of power should achieve the same purpose.
