Larry Lilly's Letter Monday March 29, 2010

During the course of your life have you noticed that some people have life and others just live? Just breathe would more appropriate. I do not pretend to understand all that I know about this phenomenon, but I know I enjoy being around the first mentioned group. The first group brightens a room when they walk in and the latter when they walk out.

Please do not get the idea that I am pushing the mistaken idea of "life" with an image of some ditz, but of real life qualities that matter. Many readers often mistake the dour Abraham Lincoln as lifeless, when in fact he bubbled deep inside with the real thing. Concerning "life" President Lincoln wrote:

"And in the end it’s not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."

A favorite one word description of mine for internal life is the word "enthusiasm." The word is a derivative of the Greek meaning "the god within." To the Christian it is not a theory but the reality of "Christ in you the hope of glory."

That Christ through the Holy Spirit is in Christians working through us is taught in both Old and New Testaments and is experientially affirmed throughout history.

Accept the fact that the purpose of this note is not to involve you in procedures that generate the appearance of life defined by "zest," "excitement," "gusto," "exhilaration," but to emphasize the reality of a higher life operating inside of you. The mentioned words have their place but they are temporary and can be "worked up." True powerful life comes down from the Father above.

Often excitement is mistaken as the cure all for depression or other forms of lifelessness. Consider the following before embarking down this path. A man wrote:

"I was so depressed last night thinking about Health Care Plans, the economy, the wars, lost jobs, Social Security, retirement funds, etc. I called Lifeline. I got a call center in Pakistan. I told them I was suicidal. They got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck."

Jesus promised to give Abundant Life to you. You must learn how to accept His life with thanks and start enjoying as abundant life is with joy within.
