One woman at a time:
That’s how God changed history that day.
A certain woman,
A seller of purple,
A native of Thyatira,
Worshipper of God,
And stranger in her own home,
Prayed with the ladies by the river.

One man from Tarsus,
Called by the Spirit to
“Come to Macedonia and help us”,
Ignoring orthodoxy,
Guided only by God,
Followed the banks of the Gangites,
And approached the praying women.
The Spirit did the rest.

“Lydia, God has prepared
Your heart for this day,”
Paul declared.
And the household was baptized
In the sparkling Gangites.
“Come to my house,” Lydia implored,
“If you find me worthy.”
The church at Philippi was born.

Centuries later,
In Lydia’s footsteps,
The rescue mission employee answers the gate;
“Come to My home,” the Lord says
To the hungry, shivering woman
Who weeps outside the gate.
A stranger in her hometown.
And the Spirit does the rest.
