Of all wonders, the Beast of Revelation enters onto the scene in Revelation 13. The reason that I point this out is that the number 13 (which is generally considered to be unlucky) is the 6th prime number or rather the prime of man. Contrast this with the 7th prime which is 17. One might recognize that adding all the numbers up to 17 (i.e. 1+2+3+...17) will equal 153. This is the number of fish caught in the Gospel of John and is the number generally associated with Christianity. Just a bit of religious trivia as a quick digression...And on...

Revelation 13:1 (KJV)

"And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy."

In prophetical Bible-speak, a beast was a kingdom (as if the crowns upon the heads were not a giveaway...haha). The sea represented the Gentile nations. The symbolic and quite mythological beast being used to describe the End-Time World Government is the Hydra (a Greek sea serpent that had between 5-100 heads) or rather a Sea Serpent.

Revelation 13:2 (KJV)

"And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and is feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority."

This verse clearly refers the reader back to the Book of Daniel. As a quick summary, this End-Time beast will be an amalgamation of characteristics inherited from the previous governments (kingdoms) described in Daniel. They are characteristics inherited from Greece (the leopard), Medo-Persia (the bear) and Babylon (the lion) and they are listed in reverse order or from the current beast being described back to the captivity in Babylon. Therefore, the beast that currently being described is the Roman Empire. Historically, that was the extant empire during John's exile on Patmos. The dragon which gave the Roman Empire all of its power and authority was HaSatan.

Revelation 13:3 (KJV)

"And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast."

Once again this is describing the Hydra. The Hydra only had one immortal head. If one were to cut off one of the mortal heads, then another would just spring up in its place. One had to eradicate the immortal head in order to prevent yet another head from growing. That is, in order to destroy the Hydra, one HAD to destroy the immortal head.

So now we know why people have been preaching about the "Revived Roman Empire" for the past few thousand years! The first three verses of Revelation 13 describe exactly that form of government during the Biblical End-Times. Perhaps, we are seeing this now with the European Union which was initially driven by the Treaty of Rome. Or perhaps it is self-fulfillment? At the very least, we are living in interesting times.
