Second Chances
Ah, let me think, how many times have I had a second chance? Numerous I suppose, maybe even too numerous to count. I do recollect one time that I shall never forget. This time I fell although it would not be the last but it was the hardest.
It was in the fall, I remember it well because the earth was beginning to nod off to sleep for the winter. The leaves had turned from a brilliant green to colors of gold, orange, and crimson. All the flowers had bent their heads and their weary stems gave way to a welcome sleep.
I had been wandering down an illusive road. One with a very rough pathway, there were stones, thickets, deep ruts and large rock walls in the way. I often could not get over the rock walls and going around them was all but impossible. When climbing through the thickets I would end up with deep wounds that left deplorable scares all over my body. The stones hurt my feet and I began to walk with a limp. Sometimes the stones much larger than and I would stumble and fall. More bruises, more marks on my already wounded body. I could not see any light at all, the shrubs and thickets and weed where chocking out the light. The further I travelled along this road the rougher it got and the darker it became. There was little cool water and sometimes none at all. Oh how I wanted to see the sunlight and have it shine upon my body once again. I wanted to sit beside the cool water and drink my fill until I could not drink anymore.
Instead of resting, I kept trudging along. Eventually I came to a dark and deep ravine and it was there that I lost my footing.
I fell fast and quickly tumbling down, down, down. There was nothing to help me. Not one jutting tree to latch onto. There were only sharp rocks and jagged edges that cut and wounded my body even more. Thump, bang, thump, thump crunch, these were the sound raging in my head. All I could hear was empty hollow sounds as I tumbled deeper into the hollow darkness. My body was battered and beaten as I fell into an unknown destiny.
Finally, I hit bottom with a loud and hard thud. I lay there with tears streaming down my cheeks and heart wrenching sobs coming from within my very soul. I could not see anything, everything was a blur and my body, soul and spirit hurt beyond measure.
Now when you are on the bottom on your back the only place to look is up.
My heart was broken and my weary body battered. Through a tear stained face I looked up. I thought I saw some light. I thought I saw someone reaching out to me. Slowly and carefully, I sat up. I wiped my eyes with my dirt stained hands and as my sight cleared, I saw a man standing before me. I knew this person I had met Him before.
No matter how much I willed my body to move forward, I could not. I needed help. Just then, a gentle hand reached out and a tender voice said, “Here take my hand, I know the way for I am the way, I am the Master of Second Chances.”
I weakly held out my hand and the Master of Second Chances helped me to my feet, He wiped away every tear with a nail-scarred hand and He held me close to His heart.
He whispered in my ear, “You will never be the same as long as you stay close to me and follow me, I will be your strength in your weakest moment and I will carry you when the way is too rough for I Am the Master of Second Chances.”
