Jehovah-Jireh
The story is well known, Abraham was about to sacrifice his son Isaac on the altar. The Lord had provided a ram that was stuck in the thicket. This is a glorious picture of the sacrifice Christ made of himself for mankind. Jehovah Jireh means the LORD will provide, or he will see to it. God told Abraham to sacrifice his only son and Abraham was going t o obey God, but before he harmed Isaac, God told him not to hurt Isaac, and The LORD provided the ram for sacrifice. Jehovah Jireh is a beautiful definition of what these words mean.
My late sister Cozette and I , attended a weekly bible study for singles when we about twenty years old. One night on the way home from the study, as we departed from the bus, a man began following us, we both panicked and began running as fast as we could, he also picked up speed. Cozette and I made it to our building and suddenly the man crossed the street and began searching for us on the other side of the street, even though he saw us both go into the building on this side of the street. God had provided protection for us. God confused him so he thought we entered the building across the street.I thanked God that he protected us from the man.
Recently my computer died and I needed it to do my job. I carried the computer in a bag with me, thinking only that I would see if it was a bad cord, rather than a dead computer. The bus dropped me off at one store, and I walked over to Staples. I was unaware that they would check my computer at no cost to me. I saw the sign as I walked in the door. I took the computer to the counter and inquired. The man took the back off the computer, and it suddenly turned on. He checked for viruses and spy ware. It came back clean, except for the fact that the computer had overheated and shut down completely. I was so depressed when I entered the store, thinking I would have to find a new way to do my work. God had provided a way for me. The whole experience turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I was feeling God had forgotten me, and still grieving over the anniversary of mom’s death. God had once again shown himself to be true and faithful. God provided a way for me to have the computer work again and at no charge to me, all I had to purchase was a cooling pad for the computer. This experience reminded me of the words Jehovah Jireh and how God had provided a ram as a sacrifice for Abraham. The words are used in Genesis 22:13-14 in the story of Abraham about to sacrifice Isaac.
Application: Isn’t it fantastic how the LORD provides in our lives every day and often times we forget? How had the LORD provided for you? What has he done in your life? There are probably many more times in our lives that the LORD has provided, and we did not even notice it. This story seems to fit as we approach the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ from the dead after he took our sins upon himself.
Phillipians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Prayer: Thank you Lord for all that you have provided for me. Thank you for providing your son for my sins, and thank you for providing experiences that remind me daily of what you provide for me. In Jesus's name amen.
