bloodied lip from a fatal kiss
and a heart tossed aside
the heart i sought's a heart i missed
left with a heart denied

now i'm up and dusted off
with a heart a little colder
behind i hear an echoing scoff
results of getting older

still i look with hope in eye
it seems there's something for me
i'm renewed with a sigh
still brave enough to see

i'm not at the end of my end
but i smell its haunting stench
for pride's sake it offends
my independence is wrenched

why do i hold on to what's not mine?
it leaves me cold and lonely
acidic disappointment might refine
i might be left more holy
