"Take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with the cares of this life" (Luke 21:34).

The dead vines of my honeysuckle entangled with the live vines. When I cut it down, then I could untangle them. Next spring it will have new fresh growth.

Sometimes, the concerns of this life entangle our lives. We spend time taking care of the affairs of this life. Then we have no time to serve God. Consequently, we become careless towards souls. Our affairs have choked the word and made our lives unfruitful.

God enlists us in His army. In this warfare we do not fight with guns, but with spiritual weapons. A soldier avoids entangling himself with the affairs of his life. Likewise, God calls us as soldiers to do the same, as we fight with the enemy, Satan (2 Tim. 2:3-4).

As I had to prune my honeysuckle, God takes the pruning shears to our lives. He cuts off the unfruitful branches that we may bear fruit.

Do not despair if this pruning process leaves you few branches. God pruned away the cares of this world. Now you can produce more fruit. He wants you to yield your life with all its branches to Him.

Prayer: Oh God, make me more fruitful. Help me in this warfare as Satan seeks to destroy me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
