And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they went(Ezekiel 1:12).

Ezekiel sat by the River Chebar and saw a fire unfolding itself. Out of this fire proceeded four angels, the cherubim. By these angels he saw a wheel within a wheel.

Wherever these angels went, they turned not, but went straight forward.

Ezekiel saw a vision of the Lord. God always goes straight forward and turns not. He does not deviate from His purposes.

Not so man--he turns this way and that. Often, I have strayed from God's path. I remember one time in particular. Satan tricked me into feeling guilty about some things I did before I came to Christ. God had blotted them out, but I could not erase them from my memory.

Consequently, I stumbled and fell. Though I had known the Lord for many years, I acted like a baby. No odor of ripe fruit oozed from my branches. It became dry and wrinkled.

Not until I returned to the cross, confessed my sin, and walked again in God's way, did my life bear fruit.

Sometimes the broad way with its glittering lights beckons me. When my mouth waters for sweets, will I stray from the narrow way to indulge? Will I resist the urge for the world's dainties and go straight forward? God satisfies me with good things with no bitter aftertaste!

Dear Lord, Turn my eyes away from the world's glitter. Keep my feet on the narrow way. In Jesus' name. Amen.
