The Hinder Vent

This poem is dedicated to one of my best friends in the world, Falkner Heard IV.

It starts out modest
“I’ll have one drink or two
It is no big deal
It is just what I do

It is all ok
I do this all the time
For surely there is
No reason to this rhyme

It is just for fun
And I’ll have just a few
It truly is really
Just something I do

Let’s go to this party
And have a few beers
I will have a great time
I have done this for years
Let’s go to the bar
We’ll just get something quick
For I need something now
My stress layers are thick

I need a drink now
I can’t take this, I’ll crack,
For I have all this junk
Weighing down on my back

Bartender, right here,
Come and give one more,
For this glass is my friend
And it I do adore

It is just a drink, yes
That tastes good to me
It is not serious
Oh no, how could this be

I thought I controlled it
I thought I was fine
I thought I could handle
This problem of mine

It has taken over
It won’t go away
I fear that this issue
It is here to stay

Somebody please help
Get me out of this curse
I can’t do it myself
It just keeps getting worse

It started so simple
It was no big thing
I thought of my mind
Yes I surely was king

It has gotten so bad
I don’t know what to do
Please help me now God
I give this up to you

I see it now Lord
Yes this quarrel of mine
Please get rid of this
For I now draw the line

I cannot mend this
Life that you’ve given me
But someone once said
That you died on a tree

They said that you died
So that I could be free
So I ask you now Jesus
Please take this from me

I want to live right now
And give this flaw up
Please come into my heart
And with peace fill my cup

For so long now, yes, I
Have struggled with this pain
So I give it to you
Now my life will I gain

I thank you now Lord
For giving my life back
And for giving me back
The control I did lack.

Now this hinder vent comes
And this hinder vent goes
But for those who it stays
Through them it truly shows
