Give what you have to Christ
75 year old Maimee cared for several of her grand-children in her small third floor apartment. The beds were lined up along one wall, there were no frames for any of them. Each bed was directly next to the next bed. Maimee was unable to go outside very often, due to a heart ailment. Maimee collected used clothes, which she washed and donated to needy people that crossed her path. Maimee gave the only thing that was available to give, clothes, but, love was what she really gave. Here was a lady that not only cared for several grand-children, but also gave clothes to those that she deemed needier than herself. In this life, she was a simple lady, like many others that are poor, yet she left a legacy behind when she died, that of love. She was never a well known or popular person in life, but I will always remember her for her love and kindness to others.
Jesus used an incident to explain how God looks at the heart of the giver, Luke 21:1-3. Several people dropped money in the offering plate at the temple. Most of those that gave, gave out of their riches. One woman, however, gave only two coins, but Jesus said that she gave more than any of the others, because she gave all she had.
Application: Jesus has given each of us gifts and talents that are unique. No one can reach the people God has for you to reach. What can you do for Christ? What can you give? You can give a kind word, a smile, and love. 1 Corinthians 13: the greatest of these is charity [ love]. You can give yourself to Christ and let him use you. You are special just the way you are. You may feel like life is so ordinary, I feel that way often, but Jesus dealt with all types of ordinary people who had only a simple life to give to give to him.
A cup of cold water: Mark 9:41 states that God gives a reward when it’s given in his name. Little given to Jesus means much. You might be thinking,“ what’s a cup of cold water, how important can that be?”
Eunice: She was Timothy’s Mother [Timothy wrote 1 and 2nd Timothy], much of our society today frowns upon motherhood, as if it was a second rate responsibility. Scripture says otherwise. My mom was content to be a mother. 2 Timothy 1:5 says she was a woman of faith. How wonderful to be in such a great position, to be able to pass one’s faith in Christ on to their children and affect lives for eternity.
Anna: Scripture says she fasted, prayed and told others about him. Few would think fasting or praying could be great, but Scriptures tells about her in Luke 2:36-38 Anna is listed as a prophetess.
The boy that gave his lunch to Jesus: John 6:9: Scripture doesn’t even record his name, yet look what Jesus did with the little lunch that the boy gave Jesus. Jesus fed 5000 people with it. Jesus takes the little, seemingly insignificant that we give him, and multiplies it many times over.
Prayer: Lord, help us to remember each day, that we are living our lives for you. Help us to do the little things in life, knowing that in your eyes that are important and can count for eternity. Help us to do it all for your glory Lord and to keep our eyes on you, In Jesus name amen.
