“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him. The young lions lack and suffer hunger; but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.” Psalm 34.8-10

I have always wondered what would happen if the church offered a “money-back guarantee” to the unbeliever. What if we believed so strongly in this gospel we preach that we would offer the world a deal they could not refuse? What if we decided to actually do the things we have espoused as truth – how would it really affect our day to day lives? I know that for the most part we follow the major points of our doctrine, but have we really given ourselves over to the Lord? Have we given Him the small things along with the obvious things? I am convinced that when we actually get to the place of complete surrender we will see exactly what God meant by “blessed is the man….. those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.”

Isn’t it worth a try? What have we got to loose? The Lord has promised blessing beyond what we even know how to ask for – but there is a price required of us. He requires that we give Him everything – to “in all your ways acknowledge Him”. Are we willing to let go of those things we have retained such a tight grip on? Can we make the choice to trust Him with everything and believe the blessing that follows our sacrifice is worth it? It seems to me this would be a “no-brainer” investment with a sure return! So why do we find it so difficult to hand it all over to God? What is it in our nature that makes it so difficult to trust Him?

“And He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” Matthew 13.58

We have become a nation and a people that trust in the strength of our own arm. We have been taught and have believed that in ourselves is found the power to accomplish anything we can dream of. The fear of the Lord and our once childlike faith has been diluted for now we trust in our self-attained knowledge and our grip on the next rung of the ladder. This has become our security – no longer do we feel the need to cling not to our own understanding for this is what makes us feel safe! Our society believes in itself and has chosen not to believe the report of the Lord.

“For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.” John 12.43

We find it harder and harder to trust in God rather than man because our ears have forgotten how to hear His voice. We are so bombarded with the voice of the world – the voice of man and media – that we no longer recognize the still small voice of the Lord. We have come to trust the voice of the world because it seems more readily available and in tune with popular opinion. If we could learn and train ourselves to filter out the mumbo-jumbo of man’s word and tune into the voice of our Father, our lives would more accurately reflect the God who created us. Are you passionate for the praise of man or the praise of God? Have you come to trust the familiar voice of popular culture or do you rest in the still, small voice of your Father?

Taste and see that He is good! You’ll never know the joy of living a completely devoted to God lifestyle until you try it – and once you do, you’ll never desire any other way. This is a sure bet – 100% satisfaction is guaranteed – or your money back!
