I definitely have aged, but I doubt if it was graceful. I am to the point where death stalks me, so why do I have to look pretty? My husband used to want me to at least color my hair when I was in my 30’s & 40’s, but you know, that is really a pain so I quit. When my hair grew out, I discovered that it was completely grey and missed the few years when it was salt and pepper. I was pretty angry at hubby for that, after all I did not ask him to get a wig so why should I color my hair?

Remember the movie in which Eddie Murphy played a guru? There was a spot where this woman was doing a commercial for a beauty treatment and she had electrodes on her face. Eddie turned up the power and her face went crazy (like the old “Soap” software). Anyway, I was watching TV not long ago and an ad came on for some beauty cream, it was the same woman doing the commercial that Eddie Murphy nearly destroyed – and she looked the same (before he turned up the power). In the movie she was actually younger than me, but now I look three times older than her.

Getting to the nitty gritty, I have had 5 children (the last one being born when I was 39) and there is no way your body can go back to being tiny after that. Plus after the terrible twos they became teenagers and still have not grown up. They too, are older than the woman that was in the Eddie Murphy movie (and my youngest is only 28) – that woman must have some plastic surgeon!

Now I have several grand-babies (youngest just born and the oldest 26) I can crawl on the floor with the little ones and act like a two-year-old. No one gives it a second thought because they think I am in the first phase of dementia, but I am actually pretty sharp and prefer the toddler’s company to the stress of adulthood. This is where grandmas go to escape from the stress of life’s problems and why grandmas always get along better with children than the parents do.

My greatest joy is to see my grand-babies laugh and play, this is something you miss with your own children if you are busy trying to look beautiful and young. Every one of my grey hairs were earned and every pound of fat on my bones is there because of some stress of life. I don’t have too many wrinkles on my face, but I am over weight and that tends to poof your face out, if I lost weight I would look like a prune – so here I am Yabba the Hut’s twin with grey fuzzy hair laughing and enjoying my old age!
