Detours and Excursions

The road of life is unpredictable.
Regardless how hard we work planning our course; it remains full of surprises.
When we least expect it, the road of life veers sharply to the right and then to the left leaving us dizzy and confused.
It rises sharply and drops quickly giving us a belly squeeze and the overwhelming desire to do it again.
How interesting would life be if the journey were just straight and flat?
We’d rush to the end and miss so much along the way.
We would miss the quaint country roads that wind through the wheat fields, the corn fields, and the woods.
We would miss the mountain trails that take us to the pinnacles of their grand heights exposing us to the splendor of a vast scenic landscape.
We would miss the hidden valley paths that lead us along gently rippling brooks and cool shaded caverns teaming with a multitude of intriguing creatures.
We would miss the splendor of vibrant sunrises and scintillating sunsets.
But most of all we would miss the comfort of being carried in God’s arms when were wounded, the joy of His loving embrace when were lonely, the strength of His hand on our shoulder when were weak, and the joy of His hand ruffling our hair when were discouraged.
We would miss His loving caress on our forehead when we felt no one cared, and when we felt no one loved us His whisper of “I love you” echoing in our soul.
We miss so much trying to avoid the rain and the pain.
We rob ourselves of so many great treasures trying to eliminate life’s detours and excursions.
