Devotionals
In the Old Testament book of Numbers Aaron, the priest, was instructed to bless the Jewish (Israelite) people with this prayer:
"May the LORD bless you and protect you. May the LORD smile on you and be gracious to you. May the LORD show you his favor and give you his peace." (Numbers 6:24-26-NLT)
This was a blessing (a gift) from God and is still used by Jewish people today as well as by many Christian churches as a benediction.
In the New Testament Paul began his letters to both Jewish and Gentile believers with a greeting and blessing:
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you his grace and peace. (Romans 1:7, 1 Corinthians 1:3, 2 Corinthians 1:2, Galatians 1:3, Ephesians 1:2, etc.-NLT)
This is my prayer for all who read this today and every day:
That God will give you good things and keep you safe from harm, from sin, from the influence of satan.
That you will know that you are loved by God, that you will be warmed and comforted by His presence and that He will draw you closer to Him and show Himself to you.
That God will look affectionately on you and be pleased with you; that you will be at peace with God and others.
