[PATIENT VOICE
OF A FATHER.]

(Point puny finger to the ceiling.)
(Shout.)
"HEY!
I'm not DONE,
yet, LORD!"

[PATIENT PAUSE.]
[FROWN.]
"What is it,
Mein kin'der."

"What about....ADULTERY?"
(Rueful smirk at the ceiling.)
"How come THAT ...isn't
ILLEGAL?"

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

"HUH?"
(Fold arms, stubbornly.)
"I mean......THAT'S one'a
the big TEN...AIN'T it?"
(Point puny finger, again.)
"It's RIGHT UP THERE,
with 'thou't shall not
commit MURDER'!"

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

"HOMOSEXUALITY is only...
one'a the six-hundred..
and THIRTEEN;
RIGHT?"

[PATIENT NOD.]

(Angry squirm.)
"How come ADULTERY...
isn't illegal, in the
fifty STATES?
Isn't that why
everybody's so upset
about gay MARRIAGE?
That...it's unBIBLICAL?"

[SIGHING.]
[LISTEN TO THE SWEET
PRAYER OF ANOTHER
CHILD, ON THE OTHER
SIDE OF THE EARTH.]
[TURN BACK TO ORNERY,
ARGUMENTATIVE, KVETCHY
CHILD.]
[SIGH.]

(Glare up at the
ceiling.)
"WELL?
If we're so against
gay MARRIAGE.....then,
we ought'a make ADULTERY
against the law, TOO!"

[TENDER VOICE.]
"I understand,
Mein kin'der."

(Shout.)
"NO!
I don't think...Ya DO!"
(Silence.)
(Whisper.)
"Your HUSBAND commits
ADULTERY....
after, standing under
the Chuppah*...
and breaking the glass**...
in front of the rabbi....
in front of your parents,
who loved him like a son....
and taking vows with you...
for twenty-five years...
and
then,
everybody just LAUGHS
about it."

[LONG PAUSE.]
"Not everyone.
My child."
[QUIET VOICE.]
"Not
Everyone."

commit
adultery.
