Why is the Bible Boring?

After reading the other comments, most agree that it is our sinful condition that makes the Bible boring and it is not boring at all in its content. I find the Bible extremely so, but the word boring to me is like a drill boring into the earth. It is not boring dull; it is boring in to our heart and exposing our sin. Sometimes, I am ashamed to say, I avoid the Bible for this very reason. I know I have done wrong and I know the Word of God will tear at my very being to bring me to repentance. Depending on how long I want to stay miserable is how long I stay away from the Word.

If you are not a born-again Christian, you are not going to fully understand what you are reading because it is a love letter from God to His children. What you will pick-up on; however, is when the Holy Spirit brings alive a verse or two in order to convict you of your sin and draw you to God. It may take some time, but little by little, the Holy Spirit opens the Word up to you. As complicated as the Bible seems, even a little child can understand it because the Holy Spirit opens the heart and gives understanding.

What is hard for Christians is when they have fallen into sin or get busy with the cares of the world; they cannot seem to get back in the Word. Finally when they do, the Holy Spirit opens up the convicting words and bores a hole in their sinful heart causing them to repent; of course, the Word comes alive again once repentance and confession has been made. I have found that the most miserable person on earth is the Christian living with a sin (which rapidly progresses into several if not confessed immediately). Once you are a child of the King, the Holy Spirit is living within you; when you sin, you offend Him and although He steps away for a bit, He lovingly convicts you and brings you back where you belong.

Many of us have things go wrong in our lives, illness or a tragedy of some sort will cause us to feel abandoned by God and begin to think, “Why me?” Why not you? Everything that happens to you during your life; both good and bad, brings you closer to God and helps you to trust Him more; your problems are not too big for God to handle, He knows the beginning from the end. A Christian’s end is to be with God, and nothing on this earth can compare with what waits for us in heaven.

Yes, the Bible is extremely boring, never dull, it has the ability to convict, to separate the bone from the marrow, to take our hard unrepentant hearts and make us new creatures in Christ. The Word of the Lord can either cut us asunder or bring us to repentance, the choice is ours.
