Knitting is about completing the second sock. It’s about perseverance. This can be played out when a mistake is made but is not found out until much later. The same degree with which joy is attained that comes from moving the project forward is the same level with which anguish takes place which results from moving back (undoing the knitting) to the point of the problem.

Knitting is about passion and multitasking. It’s about care and concern. Knitting involves going beyond the mechanical. It’s about the coordination of steel/or other needle material, hand movements, eye movements, brain movements, and yarn. It can involve intentional and incidental actions. It somehow fulfills a desire in an individual for life to go forward. Knitting can be social or solitary. It can be done by rich and poor alike.

Knitting goes beyond the action of knitting itself. The love is transferred from the one who has knitted the object to the one who has received the knitted object- shawl, sock, sweater, or the like. The love is somehow ingrained in the object. The NIV uses the term “knit” when it refers to how God formed us. Psalm 139: 13 “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.”
