In Bethlehem of Judah
Was born a baby boy,
As was foretold by Micah—
Israel’s pride and joy.
Lying in a feeding trough
The One who would be King,
While in the skies of Heaven
The choirs of angels sing.

The Anointed One was here
The Lord of earth and sky,
Now sleeping in a stable
With shepherds standing by.
How lowly His beginning
Seems to the world of men;
The One who formed the heavens
Had come to pay for sin.

The baby in the manger,
So humble, meek and mild,
Here to fulfil God’s purpose,
No longer is a child.
When we recall His birthday
Let’s also understand,
He died, rose and ascended,
Now at the Father’s hand.

One day He is returning;
Then He will reign as King:
The Lord’s rule will be perfect;
What joy that day will bring!
As we rejoice this season
Know Who that Child became!
For He is soon appearing—
This time He comes to reign!
