Humble me Lord,
Cut me down to size.
Humble me Lord,
Help me to realize
My heart’s desire
My strongest affinity
Lord, is to always,
Be walking with thee.
Show me the error
Of my wretched ways
So I might dwell
With you all of my days.
For only you know
The true source of piety.
For there by Your
will,is where I long to be.
I’ll not be content,
I’ll never be happy until
I am firmly planted
In the center of your will.

The humble also shall increase their joy in Jehovah, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 29:19
Humility is a commodity that only a few possess. The reason being it is a very difficult discipline. Humility or obsequiousness requires putting aside one’s own desire for the benefit of another persons needs. It requires characteristics such as docility, unpretentiousness, restraint, lowliness, submissiveness, subservience, yielding, compliance, and most importantly obedience. That is a large laundry list of difficult characteristics for the average person to fulfill.
How can one ever hope to perfect humility within oneself? We can’t. At least not alone, and certainly not perfectly. We can however, strive for the fulfillment of such a glorious quality. We can mold ourselves closely, notice I did not say replicate. There is a huge difference between the two. The latter implies duplication or a cloning to coin a modern day phrase. Molding is the shaping, the forming, the patterning oneself into something similar.
In order to obtain some degree of humility we need a role model. Jesus Christ is certainly the model of choice for a believer. He exemplifies all the characteristics needed for humility. He served the world when He exercised obedience to the Father. In so doing, He made it possible for all who embrace Him as Lord of their life to no longer be prisoners to sin, we are now free from the bondage of Satan’s suzerainty thus affording us the privilege to spend eternity in Heaven forever. Jesus is the peerless parallelism of humility. Pray daily to be like Him, profit from His perfect presence in your life, and cling to the hope that in some small way, through Him you will achieve humility.
