The Saga of Brent Jenkins

Brent Jenkins, though only 13 years old, loved life. So family and friends could understand his being depressed when he learned he would be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

While on his way home from baseball practice, Brent and his bicycle were slammed into a utility pole by an oncoming car. If it was not for the quick action of a classmate’s 911 call, Brent might have died on that fateful day. A very active young man, Brent played football, basketball, ran on the track team, and was a magnificent dancer by his 11th birthday. It would seem that a once active life came to a standstill. But the spunk inside of Brent would not keep the teen down for long. Brent discovered photography. Within a matter of weeks, Brent photographed birds, buildings and Oklahoma storms. After getting his parent’s permission, Brent withdrew the $750.00 from his saving account to purchase a computer and a printer. Brent’s work soon hit the internet and was big hit with professionals who evaluated his work as superior. They were amazed when they learned he was a 13 year old.

An editor for one of the airline magazines saw several of Brent’s avian photographs. He quickly made contact with Brent and his parents. Securing his parents’ permission, Brent was contracted to provide the magazine with still scenes of birds and terrestrial animal species. As an added benefit, Brent and his family received an all expense paid air travel to islands in Caribbean in addition to payment for the photographs.

By his 15th birthday, Brent’s photographs were seen by thousands of travelers worldwide. Award and prizes for excellence in photography soon followed as well as increasing demands for his photographs.

Brent Jenkins’ secret? “Don’t get down because of a U-turn in life. Look for something to do that interests you and just do it! Look for something to do that interest you and just do it! I am also so very fortunate to have family and friends who were there to back me up as well as Godly people who prayed for me in some of the darkest hours of my life.”

If one has failed or feel ignored by God, perhaps the tragedy of life is just a nudge from God, urging a person towards a new exciting direction.
