I heard the sadness in your voice
When you called to say "goodbye"
I heard the trembling in your words
You tried hard not to cry

My sweet, dear friend, you're hurting
'Tis nearly more than you can bear
I know its true and it breaks my heart
Knowing I can't be there

I noticed how he "up and moved"
He took you far away
He screams at you, he threatens you
And expects you not to stray

He drives home drunk all the time
He doesn't give a damn
He throws the food that you've prepared
His excuse is just a scam

He says …that you deserve it
Because you make him mad
He says… that it is all your fault
And you deserve to be so sad

I notice that when he is home
You are reluctant to talk
He listens on the other phone
He knows one day you'll walk

He says… that he will track you down
If you ever try and leave
He says… that he can have you killed
For a worthy fee

I can understand your fear
That his threats will ring true
For in him, there is a past
From way before he met you

Please don’t think that you’re alone
I for one do understand
Intimidation is abuse
Huh! And they think they're a man?

Hold your head up high, my friend
Try not to let him keep you down
Just remember the old saying ...
“What goes around, comes around”
