This man without a name, he haunts my dreams and I find him in every place. I see him in the streets, the airport, the store, the news, and all the places I go. I try to hide but everywhere I am so is he. He does not know me, he does not care. He goes about his life unaware. His heart is cold and his mind in controlled by the darkest force I’ve ever known. He does not see the trail of endless tears on my cheeks, or the wound he caused my soul. His finger pulled the trigger and in an instant he shattered my heart and froze my world. He fights for what he does not know will bring his soul to the darkness of eternal death. In this world this man is my enemy and causes my heart to bleed agony and despair. My blood surges and rages as I pass him every day. I watch him bow to his god and seek destruction for all I hold dear. I know I have a choice to either forgive or hold this hatred near to my broken heart. I know what I desire with every ounce of my being is the farthest emotion from what I am called to offer this man -unending forgiveness. I walk the streets in a desperate effort to clear my mind. I toss in turmoil each night as he finds me even in my dreams. Each day I am gripped by the excruciating grief that fills my heart, and I fall to my knees in agony to be free of the hatred that rules my heart. My soul cries out for the grace of God and the heart of Christ. Lord, help me love this enemy that haunts my every moment and forgive him of the endless pain he’s caused! His voice came steady, tender, and clear- “The sins of all are equal to me. Do you not know this is what I died for? I desire your enemy’s heart and salvation as much as I desired yours. He is my creation and I long for him to know my truth. Love your enemies Meg. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst.” I know I have to make a choice to either allow my heart to become like stone towards this man, or, I can choose to let the overwhelming grace of God fill this hole in my heart with forgiveness. He will never know who I am or even what I have chosen, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is if I am willing to listen to the voice of God and forgive a man in the mountains of Afghanistan, whose name and face I will never know. Will I allow God to strengthen the fibers of my heart? Am I willing to focus my gaze on nothing but the heart of Christ and set my desire for vengeance aside? I am desperately trying…because I am called to extend the love and forgiveness of Christ
