Almost all “baby boomers” remember viewing episodes of “The Lone Ranger.” We want to believe that heroes are among us, defending our rights, and protecting us from evil. He desired no credit for his bravery. The shows always ended with someone wondering about the identity of the famous masked man. Then we heard the truth; rescue came from “The Lone Ranger!” Do you remember the basis of the story? A group of Texas Rangers were ambushed and all died in the attack except our hero. He alone survived; yes he lived as “The Lone Ranger!” Tonto nursed him back to health; and together they rode seeking justice and liberty for all.


If the drama of “Lone Ranger” needed a Bible hero double, Elijah would be cast in the role! He really fits the billing. “Lord, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life (Romans 11:3 NKJ).” Elijah threw a pity party and he alone wore the party hat! Unlike the western hero he wanted special recognition. “But what does the divine response say to Him? I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to (false god) Baal (Romans 11:4 NKJ).” No, Elijah could not claim the distinction of the only man living in faithfulness to Jehovah God. He needed to “bite the bullet” and get back on the job!
