MY HERO



One of the great inspirations of my life was a man named D.L. Moody. He was a simple preacher with limited education that preached during the Civil War Days. If you ever have the opportunity to read any biographies about him you will be inspired.

I will share just a few examples. Someone was saying that the world has yet to see what God could do through a man fully committed to Christ. Moody decided that he would be that man and I believe his life demonstrated it. He promised God that 24 hours would never pass without him speaking to someone about Christ and salvation. One night he almost forgot. As he was ready to turn in he remembered his promise. He looked outside the door and a man passed by with an umbrella. Moody asked if He could share His shelter and began by askng the man if his shelter would hold in time of storm? Someone told Moody that they didn't like the way that he evangelized. Moody asked how he did it? His reply was I don't do it. In his simple and direct way Moody replied well I think I like the way that I do it better than the way that you don't do it. One time during one of his meetings he did not have sufficient finances to rent a building. He got down on his knees and cried out" oh God please send the money in such a way so that we know it came only from you." Maybe some of these Christian fundraisers could somehow connect with Moody’s God. The next day just in time the answer came and he had the meeting place. I would love to have heard his sermons. I understand He preached over 50 sermons on John 3: 16. I thought I was doing good with 10. I hope that you will be encouraged and motivated to read more of this great servant of God.
