Many a song I thought to sing
When all my life was bright,
My witness for my Lord more keen
When day dissolved the night.

But my ways are not God's ways,
And He knows best you see,
The sweetest song I ever sang
Birthed through the pain in me.

The night forced me to walk with Him
More closely than before,
As heavenly music flowed from me
My spirit learned to soar.

For I have seen God's faithfulness
More fully in the night,
My eyes more blinded to His love
While walking in sunlight.

Oh God, You truly know what's best,
I thank You for this pain,
For You have drawn me to Your arms,
These nights pass not in vain.

The sweetest music can be heard
When sunlight is no more,
The world awaits a fresh new song
They've never heard before.
